Biden has said that Israel needs to do far more to protect the lives of civilians in Gaza. "We're going to continue to do what's necessary to ensure that Israel has the means to defend itself," Austin said. "But that said, we are currently reviewing some near-term security assistance shipments in the context of unfolding events in Rafah." A decision against Israel would further add to pressure on Biden to curb the flow of weapons and money to Israel's military. "Over the years, the United States has provided tens of billions of dollars in military aid to Israel.

The essay — one of 40 in her new book, “Bite by Bite” — isn’t just about her son, or vanilla. Each chapter of “Bite by Bite” focuses on a food — everything from apples to butter to the Filipino dessert halo-halo. But food is one big connector, so I really wanted to focus in on that. Menahem Kahana/AFP/Getty ImagesI really wanted to kind of celebrate, again what nourishes us, what brings us together. I used to be so creative, and I don’t know what to do.

Israel’s military said Sunday that “99%” of projectiles fired by Iran were intercepted by Israel and its partners, with only “a small number” of ballistic missiles reaching Israel. In total, around 170 drones, more than 30 cruise missiles and more than 120 ballistic missiles were launched at Israel by Iran overnight Saturday, the military said. US officials said more than 70 drones and three ballistic missiles were intercepted by US Navy ships and military aircraft, without giving details of exactly what defenses were used to bring down the projectiles. The Iron Dome is the bottom layer of Israel’s missile defense, according to the country’s Missile Defense Organization (IMDO). The ballistic missiles that did reach Israel fell on the Netavim Air Base in southern Israel, Israel’s military spokesman said, adding that they caused only light structural damage.

With Palestinians in Gaza in dire need, any aid is welcome, but aid groups say maritime and air-dropped aid should be complementary to land deliveries, not a substitute. How do maritime aid deliveries compare to other methods? The US and other countries have meanwhile been air-dropping humanitarian aid into Gaza, a method aid agencies have criticized as ineffective given the scale of need in Gaza. CNN —Qatar says it has brokered a deal between Israel and Hamas that will see medicines delivered to Israeli hostages in Gaza in exchange for the delivery of medicine and humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians. The medications and aid will leave Doha on Wednesday and head to Egypt before being transported to Gaza, the ministry added. The medicine is destined for more than 40 hostages thought by Israel to need it, according to the official, who also said that Hamas only agreed to the deal if more medicine was sent to hospitals and Palestinians in Gaza. Throughout the war, Israel has allowed a limited amount of aid and medicines to enter Gaza but far more is needed, humanitarian groups say. The United Nations has complained that Israel has been rejecting missions to deliver supplies to northern Gaza.

The Iron Dome defense system has blocked thousands of missiles since 2011. Here’s how it works. Menahem Kahana/AFP/Getty ImagesIsrael’s war with Hamas has revived dormant U.S. interest in producing munitions for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, U.S. Army and industry officials said, a development that would help a U.S. regional ally resupply for future conflicts. Any U.S. manufacturer of Tamir interceptors would take months to get moving. But with Hamas and Hezbollah firing hundreds of rockets at Israeli military sites and cities every day, Israel’s stockpile of interceptor missiles is dwindling.

Crypto technology helped Hamas raise millions of dollars before the Israel-Hamas war. Photo: menahem kahana/Agence France-Presse/Getty ImagesWASHINGTON—The role of cryptocurrencies in illicit finance has come under renewed scrutiny after The Wall Street Journal’s report that Hamas and other militant groups used the technology to raise millions of dollars ahead of their recent attacks in Israel. Some lawmakers responded by calling for tougher rules to curb crypto’s utility for criminals and groups under U.S. sanctions. Crypto firms say they work to keep such users off their platforms and argue that digital tokens can help law enforcement track bad actors.

Menahem Kahana | Afp | Getty ImagesIsrael's ground offensive into the Gaza Strip may not be a full scale invasion, but will likely unfold in phases, according to a former U.S. ambassador to Israel. Israel has been preparing for a ground operation into the Gaza Strip after amassing troops at the border last week. Despite Israel's constant air attacks on Gaza, Hamas has continued to fire rockets at Israeli cities — thanks to a labyrinth of elaborate tunnels and bunkers underneath the Gaza Strip. According to the Israeli Defense Forces, the sophisticated underground system holds electrical generators, intelligence rooms and supplies for Hamas' underground army.

As well as flammable invasive plants sparking and spreading wildfires, climate change is enabling invasive species to move north – even to remote areas such as high mountains, deserts and frozen tundra. Preventing the arrival of new species into new regions is the best way to manage threats from invasive species, according to the report. For invasive species that have already taken hold, eradication has been a useful tool, especially on islands, according to the report.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he would ‘meet with every American representative, governor, senator, members of Congress. Ron DeSantis , an expected 2024 GOP presidential candidate, during the governor’s visit to Israel scheduled for later this month. Mr. DeSantis, who once vowed to be the most “pro-Israel Governor in America” will be making his second trip there as governor on April 27 to deliver the keynote address at the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem, according to an announcement from the museum and The Jerusalem Post.
Now that government has collapsed, opening the door for Netanyahu to sweep back into power on a nationalistic right-wing slate. Even before the Knesset took its first preliminary vote Wednesday to disperse, Netanyahu, also known as “Bibi,” couldn’t stop beaming. A long-running corruption case will hang over Netanyahu during any upcoming elections as it has during the past four votes. Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Yair Lapid will become interim prime minister. He is due to become interim prime minister.
